Coconut blossom sugar – what is that?
The easy answer: it's sugar from the coconut palm. More precisely from the palm's blossom, which mainly grows in Southeast Asia. To harvest them, hard working labourers climb up the tall palm trees and cut off a fine layer from the blossoms. They then collect the creamy blossom syrup that flows out. This coconut blossom syrup is now boiled down, dried and finely ground to create a mass and our coconut blossom sugar is finally ready! It has a fine caramel and light vanilla flavour. Did you know that you can only extract about one litre of nectar from a coconut palm every day? This explains why coconut blossom sugar is such an exclusive and comparatively expensive product.
Coconut blossom sugar: how to use it
You can use coconut blossom sugar in the same way as ordinary refined sugar. It has delicious properties such as a caramel taste with a slight hint of vanilla and a similar sweetening power to raw cane sugar. You can therefore easily convert it and use it for cooking, baking, making jams or sweetening coffee. Ever made your own chocolate? With the chocolate recipes in our recipe page you can easily make some, using coconut blossom sugar, cocoa butter, coconut butter, coconut oil and tonka beans. You should also try to make our tiramisu cream. Pure pleasure!

Climate impact
At KoRo, we analyse the greenhouse gas emissions that are produced during the production of our snacks. These include, among other things, CO2, methane and nitrous oxide. Our hard-working sustainability team collects all the information to calculate a value: the so-called CO2 equivalents. We are now passing this information on to you so that you can make informed purchasing decisions and keep an eye on your personal carbon footprint. We also use these valuable findings ourselves, to try to make our supply chains even smarter in the future and monitor our CO2 footprint.
CO₂ emissions by product
To make the work of our sustainability team easier, we have teamed up with the company Cozero. They support us with their decarbonisation software to calculate the CO2 emissions of our products. Our products go through a lot before they make their way into your pantry or snack bowl, so there is a lot to take into consideration: production, packaging, and logistics – to name just the big steps.

CO₂ emission per product in comparison
Would you like to find out how well your favourite snack stacks up against other products in terms of carbon footprint? Say no more! To create comparability, we calculated the CO₂ emissions per 1 kg of our products and compared them with other products that end up on many people's plates every day, such as cheese, tofu, and many more. We also included coffee as a drink for comparison. So no matter if it is your favourite snack or your go-to kitchen product, you are now able to see exactly how it performs in our “CO₂ per kg of product” ranking.
Comparison of CO₂ emissions per product in kg
Disclaimer: Different methods (comparison products) - The CO2 emissions of the non-KoRo products come from a different data source. Therefore, there may be differences between their evaluation method and the evaluation of KoRo products.
Drinks with coconut water
First things first: What actually is coconut water? Drank it and found it to be good: For us, coconut water has become one of the staples in the office alongside orange and apple juice. But is it actually contained in every coconut? Coconut water is obtained from young, unripe coconuts. Depending on the degree of ripeness, a coconut can contain up to half a liter of juice. The unripe the nut, the more liquid it contains. Ripe coconuts also often contain some coconut water, but less. Coconut water therefore provides information about how long the coconut has been stored. However, a coconut with less water is no less valuable in the kitchen, it is simply used differently. This is because the firm, white flesh of the coconut is then used to make the popular coconut milk for your creamy, spicy curries. For coconut fans, nothing beats fruity, chilled coconut water - preferably fresh and straight from the coconut, of course. However, as you have to dig deeper into your wallet for fresh coconuts in Germany, we have organic coconut water in Tetra Paks for you in the store and have collected the best ideas for drinks with it here.
