Medjool Datteln wachsen vor allem in Gebieten mit tropischer Hitze heran: Palästina, Jordanien, Marokko und Tunesien sind die Hauptanbaugebiete für die süßen Früchte. Unsere Medjool Datteln haben eine israelische Herkunft.
Die Medjool-Dattelpalmen sind besonders hart im Nehmen und lassen sich selbst von Sandstürmen und wochenlangen Hitzeperioden nicht beirren. Dattelpalmen müssen nicht mit wertvollem Süßwasser gegossen werden, sondern geben sich mit Salzwasser zufrieden. Um die Palmen zu pflegen, steigen die Dattel-Landwirt:innen auf Kräne in schwindelerregender Höhe: Alles für die karamellig-süße Frucht!
Wer neu in den Medjool-Dattel-Anbau einsteigen will, braucht erst mal viel Geduld. Erst nach sieben Jahren tragen die Dattelpalmen ihre ersten Früchte. Was lange währt, wird endlich gut: Dattelpalmen tragen dann Früchte bis in ihr 100. Lebensjahr hinein.
Einmal ausgewachsen, misst die Dattelpalme bis zu 30 Meter Höhe. Das macht auch die Ernte zu einem komplizierten Unterfangen. Der Weg nach oben lohnt sich aber: Eine Palme trägt pro Saison etwa 100 kg Datteln. Und wer einmal eine frische Medjool-Dattel probiert hat, versteht diesen Aufwand.
