Almonds - nuts or kernels?

In a world in which peanuts count as legumes and tomatoes as fruits, it's not surprising that almonds are officially not nuts, but kernels. The almond tree (Prunus dulcis) is part of the rose family, but in botanical terms, almonds are classified as drupes. And almonds have been cultivated for over 4000 years, isn't that amazing? The almond originated in the eastern Mediterranean region. Nowadays, they are mainly grown in California, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Australia and Chile.

Recipes with ground almonds

There are countless ways to use our ground almonds in your recipes! They are great for baking all types of cookies and cakes; substitute them in for walnuts in this banana bread or make your own delicious energy balls. They serve as a wonderfully sweet thickener in your biscuits and cakes– so no need to ask why to use ground almonds in a cake recipe.  These ground almonds have so much talent in them, and this is not limited to sweet dishes. They can also be oven or pan roasted, give your home-made bread that nutty kick or be the star of your almond pesto.

By the way: if you don't have enough flour for your bread, you can mix the ground almonds in a 1:1 ratio with regular flour and replace some of the flour with ground almonds for delicious results.

Climate impact

At KoRo, we analyse the greenhouse gas emissions that are produced during the production of our snacks. These include, among other things, CO2, methane and nitrous oxide. Our hard-working sustainability team collects all the information to calculate a value: the so-called CO2 equivalents. We are now passing this information on to you so that you can make informed purchasing decisions and keep an eye on your personal carbon footprint. We also use these valuable findings ourselves, to try to make our supply chains even smarter in the future and monitor our CO2 footprint.

CO₂ emissions by product

To make the work of our sustainability team easier, we have teamed up with the company Cozero. They support us with their decarbonisation software to calculate the CO2 emissions of our products. Our products go through a lot before they make their way into your pantry or snack bowl, so there is a lot to take into consideration: production, packaging, and logistics – to name just the big steps.

CO₂ emission per product in comparison

Would you like to find out how well your favourite snack stacks up against other products in terms of carbon footprint? Say no more! To create comparability, we calculated the CO₂ emissions per 1 kg of our products and compared them with other products that end up on many people's plates every day, such as cheese, tofu, and many more. We also included coffee as a drink for comparison. So no matter if it is your favourite snack or your go-to kitchen product, you are now able to see exactly how it performs in our “CO₂ per kg of product” ranking.

Comparison of CO₂ emissions per product in kg

Disclaimer: Different methods (comparison products) - The CO2 emissions of the non-KoRo products come from a different data source. Therefore, there may be differences between their evaluation method and the evaluation of KoRo products.

Was Du siehst...
Was Du siehst...

Sind unsere gemahlenen Mandeln aus Kalifornien dann endlich bei uns angekommen....

... was Deine Mandeln sehen
... was Deine Mandeln sehen

Questions & answers: Ground almonds 1kg
No search results.
Our ground almond kernels are true all-rounders. They refine any desserts and are ideal for baking. But also savory dishes, such as pesto or nut bread, can enrich the ground almonds. As if that were not enough, the ground kernels are a true source of vegetable protein (21 g / 100 g) and have a high fiber content (13 g / 100 g). They taste nutty and pleasantly sweet. Impressive what such a ground kernel can score with, isn't it?
We can not recommend you to give your dog almonds. Although they are not poisonous, they can cause health problems such as stomach aches or similar. If you have any questions about it, we recommend that you seek advise from your veterinarian.
Clear! Except for the ground almond kernels comes us literally nothing in the bag, so they are without animal ingredients.
Yes, our ground almonds are a source of protein with 21 g per 100 g of nuts.
100 g of our blanched almond kernels have 579 kcal. You can find the exact nutritional values next to the product description, as well as on the product packaging. Despite the relatively high calorie density, don't get the idea to cut out fats from your diet - that's important, you hear?
The ground almonds can be stored for 12 months after filling in their original packaging. It is best to check the best-before date on the product packaging. By the way, the best-before date should not be confused with the use-by date. If the use-by date is exceeded, food should no longer be consumed. The best-before date, on the other hand, simply indicates until when a food product's properties such as taste, odor, color, consistency and nutritional value remain at least unchanged - as long as it is stored sealed in its original packaging. The motto for checking whether your ground almonds have expired is therefore: see, smell, taste.
To get the most out of your almond kernels, store them in a cool, dry place and protect them from heat.
Healthy is above all a balanced and wholesome diet. Our ground almond kernels can contribute to a healthy diet as a source of protein (21 g / 100 g). Proteins contribute, for example, to the maintenance of muscle mass and normal bones.
Yes - even during pregnancy, tonsils can contribute to a healthy diet. If you have any concerns, it is best to talk to your doctor again.
Almonds are naturally gluten-free. However, cross-contamination with gluten may occur during the filling process, as our supplier also processes foods containing gluten. For this reason, we do not title our ground almonds as gluten-free.
Yes, our ground almonds are a source of protein with 21 g per 100 g of nuts.
