Are dried fruits healthy like fresh fruit?

You may wonder why you should order dried fruit from us at all when you can also eat fresh fruit. We have a few good reasons:

  • Taste: Dried fruit has a lower water content than fresh fruit. Among other things, this intensifies the taste. Dried papaya, for example, is a fruity-sweet gummy bear substitute – with no added sugar*! Unlike many industrially processed sweets, most dried fruits are low-fat or even fat-free snacks.
  • Fibre: the gentle drying or dehydration process also increases the concentration of all the other ingredients. Dried fruit, such as our apple chips or dried unsulphured apricots, often scores points with its high fibre content. You would have to eat a lot of fresh fruit to get the same amount. Dried fruit can help you reach the recommended daily intake of 30 grams of fibre as recommended by the DGE.
  • Natural sweetness: The fruit sugars that dried fruit naturally contains are a great alternative to refined household sugar. High-quality dried fruit, for example in the form of our date paste, is perfect for sweetening cakes, desserts and smoothie bowls. The natural sweetness of dried fruit means it rarely detracts from the flavour of your creations, but rather enriches them.
  • Do you often buy semi-green bananas and then find that they have ripened overnight into deep brown specimens that you have to use up immediately? This does not happen with our dried banana slices. The fruit's own sugar acts as a natural preservative during the (freeze) drying of fresh fruit and makes dried fruit long-lasting without artificial additives. In addition, the preservation process allows you to enjoy your favourite fruit, such as strawberries even out of season.

Buy dried fruit in bulk packs

Drying removes most of the water from the fresh, ripe fruit, which not only results in an intense flavour but also in natural preservation. Thanks to the long shelf life, you can buy our dried fruit in all colours and shapes in efficient bulk packs and, unlike fresh fruit, you don't have to worry about it spoiling quickly.

With our large packs, we want to save on transport routes and packaging material. In addition, our manufacturers are happy to sell large quantities. And that means you can buy dried fruit from us online at a reasonable price.

Various dried fruits

The list of dried fruit that we carry in our range is long: we have over 80 different products in our dried fruit category. In addition to classic dried fruits, we also have freeze-dried fruits, puffed fruits, a fine selection of dates, freeze-dried fruit powder, fruit chips, fruit snacks and tasting sets of our dried fruits in our range. We focus on the best quality at fair prices and, of course, on an incomparable, particularly intense taste. At KoRo you can easily order dried fruit online and have it conveniently delivered to your home.

Our favourite dried fruit – dates

Our personal dried fruit highlight is and remains the date. However, not all dates are the same – but all of them are versatile!

How about, for example,

We offer our dates in different pack sizes, so you can decide whether you want to take the risk and order just a kilo of dates – which will probably be gone faster than you think – or whether you'd rather play it safe and go straight for the 5-kilo date bulk packs.

The finest fruit powder made from 100% freeze-dried fruit

In addition to conventional dried and freeze-dried fruits, we also have fruit powder in store for you. We dry fruit using the freeze-drying process so that you can enjoy delicious fruit smoothies and bake fruity cakes all year round. We then grind the dried fruits into a fine powder. With our freeze-dried mango powder, you can enjoy a fruity and fresh mango lassi all year round. But our fruit powder is also ideal for baking and can be used as a natural colouring agent. And with our fine organic açai powder, you can whip up a delicious superfood bowl for breakfast in no time. As you can see, dried fruit is more than just a snack.

Natural dried fruit

We at KoRo always try to use as few additives as possible. That is why almost all of our dried fruit is available without added sugar* and without sulphur.

Dried fruit: sulphured or unsulphured?

Sulphured or unsulphured? Which is it? Dried fruit is often sulphured to make the dried fruit last a little longer. It also helps to preserve the fruit's intense colour. The fact that our dried apricots, for example, are not sulphured can be seen from the fact that they are darker in colour than comparable supermarket varieties. Since the gentle drying of our fruits already contributes a great deal to the preservation process, we at KoRo believe that our dried fruits do not need any additives. Therefore, most of our dried fruits are not sulphured and yet have a long shelf life!

Dried fruit with no added sugar*

Our gentle drying process removes the water from our dried fruit, making the flavour all the more aromatic and intense. That's why our dried fruit does not need any added sugar. If we do add a little extra, we will indicate this so that you can see it immediately, as we have done here with our cranberries sweetened with pineapple juice.

How we make dried fruit

As already mentioned, we have all kinds of dried fruit for you to choose from. Below, we will explain how we produce and prepare our dried fruit.

Want to make your own dried fruit?

Drying fruit at home is both energy- and time-consuming. That's why we take care of it for you and dehydrate the fruit for you in special dehydrating machines, thereby removing the liquid – this preserves the fruit and gives it its unique consistency.

For that extra crunch: puffed dried fruit

Crunchy like your popcorn, fruity-sweet like your favourite fruit. In this drying process, a vacuum is used to extract the moisture from our fruits in 1-3 minutes. The water contained in the fruits evaporates explosively due to the sudden change in pressure and ‘puffs’ – the fruits puff up slightly and remain in this state. Convince yourself of the special consistency and great taste with our puffed mango, physalis or red currant.

Caught in the cold: buy freeze-dried fruit

Finally, we would like to introduce you to a particularly gentle preservation method: freeze-drying. Before drying, our fruits are shock-frozen. Then, with the help of a vacuum, almost all of the moisture is removed over a period of hours. We use this process, for example, for our freeze-dried wild blueberries. It has various advantages: the colour, shape and taste are virtually completely preserved. The fruits also last much longer because the water content is so low.

Soaking dried fruit – what for?

Dried fruit can be soaked before eating to make it easier to eat. After soaking our dried blueberries, you can quickly whip up a delicious jam. Soaking dried fruit makes it softer and easier to chew. For example, you can soak our dried mango strips in water for 30 minutes before eating. Freeze-dried fruit will almost return to its original form when soaked. Why not give it a try with our freeze-dried peaches?

Freeze-dried fruit as a topping

We love dried fruit as a topping for muesli and bowls for breakfast. Simply crush the dried fruit and sprinkle it over your dish. Thanks to the drying process, you can enjoy fruit all year round, even when it's out of season. We know how hard it is to go without fresh strawberries during the cold season. Thanks to freeze-drying, you no longer have to, and you can enjoy our freeze-dried strawberry slices in your muesli even in the depths of winter.

Delicious recipes with dried fruit

If you need a little more inspiration, you can click through our many recipes with dried fruit. You can use dried fruit for fruity and sweet mueslis, but also for savoury dishes, such as our dried apricots for a homemade lentil salad. Freeze-dried strawberries and dried goji berries are perfect for delicious homemade granola bars, among other things. And our freeze-dried fruit powders are ideal as a natural colouring agent, for example for cookies.

All questions about dried fruit

We want to give you all the information about our dried fruit. If you have questions about a specific product, it's best to check the product specification. If you don't find what you're looking for there, please contact us by email or on social media and we'll answer all your questions.

How do I store dried fruit?

To ensure that your dried fruit has a long shelf life, it is important to store it correctly. You should never store dried fruit in the refrigerator; it is best to keep it in a dry and dark place. With the right storage, dried fruit can keep for up to two years, depending on the variety. However, we doubt that it will survive that long with you.

Are dried fruits healthy?

You are probably wondering whether dried fruit is healthy or not. At KoRo, we are advocates of not categorising food as ‘healthy’ or ‘unhealthy’. What is healthy first and foremost is a balanced and varied diet. In principle, any type of dried fruit can therefore be integrated into a balanced diet. However, you should not replace fresh fruit with dried fruit entirely.

Do dried fruits help you lose weight?

If you want to lose weight, it is important that you pay attention to your energy intake. You can eat dried fruit if you want to lose weight, but you should still be careful not to consume too much dried fruit, as it has a fairly high energy and sugar content. If you are trying to avoid processed, added sugars while trying to lose weight, dried fruit is definitely a good alternative to conventional sweets and can be easily integrated into your diet.

Does dried fruit still have vitamins?

Fresh fruit is full of vitamins, that's no secret. You may wonder what about dried fruit in terms of vitamins. The good news: even after drying, the dried fruit still contains a large part of its nutritional value. Our organic açai powder, consisting of dried açai berries, is, for example, rich in vitamin C and iron.

Why do dried fruits have more calories?

Dried fruit has significantly more calories per 100 grams than fresh fruit. This is because drying removes water from the fruit, thereby increasing its energy density.

Does dried fruit affect digestion?

If you search the internet, you will often come across the question of whether dried fruit can affect digestion. In general, a balanced and high-fibre diet is important for a healthy digestion. Of course, you can also integrate dried fruit into your diet for this purpose. Among other things, our dried plums can serve as a source of fibre.

Can babies eat dried fruit?

The German Federal Centre for Nutrition recommends that babies can be introduced to dried fruit, such as sultanas, from the end of their first year. However, dried fruit is very sweet and has a higher sugar content than fresh fruit. Therefore, small children should only eat small amounts of dried fruit.

Can I eat dried fruit when I'm pregnant?

Dried fruit is perfectly acceptable in moderation during pregnancy. Since pregnant women have a slightly increased energy requirement, this can ideally be covered with a small additional portion of dried fruit. However, it is best to talk to your gynaecologist about the extent to which you can integrate dried fruit into your diet.

Is dried fruit alkaline?

Dried fruit is alkaline and therefore also ideally suited for an alkaline diet.

Can my dog eat dried fruit?

In principle, dogs can eat dried fruit. It is best to soak it a little beforehand and mix it with their food or simply feed it to them as a treat. However, dogs should not eat too much dried fruit. If you are unsure, it is best to talk to a trusted vet.

*Our dried fruit naturally contains sugar. Since the sugar content is concentrated by up to 70% due to the dehydration during drying, dried fruit should only be consumed in moderation (especially by children) in the sense of a needs-based diet. You can find individual nutritional information, such as sugar content, calories and carbohydrates, on the respective product detail pages.
