Dragon fruit - what is it?
Its name may make you shiver, but the exotic fruit from Central America is really not that dangerous. In fact, we think it's quite an eye-catcher. The dragon fruit, also known as pitaya, comes from the cactus family and is mainly cultivated in Colombia, Nicaragua, Thailand, Vietnam and China. However, the colourful fruit has also been making a name for itself in Europe and has found a regular place in many cafés. We are not surprised, because the dragon fruit not only convinces with its pop of colour, but also with its taste.
Dried fruit everywhere: Advantages of dried dragon fruit
From dried apple rings to dried strawberries, we have all the classics among dried fruits in our selection. So how did we get the idea to dry dragon fruit? We love the taste of dragon fruit, however, with a water content of around 90 %, the taste of dragon fruit is sometimes a little too mild for us. That's why we have subjected our exotic favourite to a drying process to minimise the water content - and thus maximise the taste. The result: a special kind of taste experience! Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside - our dried dragon fruit slices are a sweet treat for young and old. Thanks to our special drying process, instead of freeze drying the dragon fruit, you can now enjoy your new favourite fruit all year round and not just when dragon fruits are in season.
Using dried dragon fruit
You can always use dragon fruit as a snack. We show you how to make real works of art out of your dried dragon fruit slices: for example, you can start the day colourfully with a dragon fruit smoothie bowl. Simply soften the dragon fruit in water for about 15 minutes and blend the dragon fruit chunks with oat drink. It looks pretty, and its exotic, fresh taste will captivate you. The same goes for lunch: just sprinkle some dried dragon fruit on your salad and convince yourself of the sweet and sour composition that also looks good. To prove that dried dragon fruit really does fit into every course, get creative and conjure up a film-worthy dessert like a dragon fruit chia jar and become the food styling queen or dragon fruit king for a moment! Who needs to chase real dragons? Your date is guaranteed to be impressed with so much culinary pleasure!

Varieties & origins
Red dragon fruit with pink flesh
The red dragon fruit, also called pitahaya, has a bright pink flesh that resembles that of a kiwi, because it contains countless small seeds. Refreshingly sweet, it is milder than its yellow variant. In the picture you can see the dried version of the fruit, which tastes exotic, sweet and tart, and has a delicate texture.
Pitaya has its origins in the tropical climates of Central America, where it finds ideal conditions, as it needs temperatures around 35 to 40°C to thrive. Thanks to its tropical climate, many Asian countries are therefore also suitable for growing dragon fruit, which is nowadays it is also grown in China, Vietnam, Sri Lanka and Thailand. But this curious looking fruit is also successfully cultivated in Israel. The exact figures of the global production are not known, so the numbers you can see on this map are only an estimate.

Thank you very much for your feedback on our dried dragon fruit! We are sorry to hear that the product did not meet your expectations. As our dragon fruit is produced without additional sweeteners, the taste can actually be slightly less sweet and more intense. In addition, the consistency is somewhat firmer due to the natural drying process. We hope you still find a KoRo product that suits your taste - maybe we can surprise you positively next time! Your KoRo team :)
