All those with a sweet tooth should therefore pay close attention, because you can now buy erythritol and appease your sweet tooth without any calories.
Erythritol – what is it?
Erythritol has been used in various foods since the early 1960s. It is a natural sugar alcohol that is also found in various vegetables such as grapes. Erythritol is produced by the fermentation of glucose (grape sugar). On the outside and in terms of taste, erythritol hardly differs from conventional household sugar. When tasting it, however, you notice a slight cold sensation, it may sounds weird but it is really not strange, but rather pleasantly refreshing.
A calorie-free sugar substitute?
Yes, you read that right. Even though erythritol contains many carbohydrates, the sugar substitute contains no calories. How does that work? Erythritol contains carbohydrates in the form of polyhydric alcohols, which are absorbed but not broken down. You can find out more about the extremely interesting sugar substitute erythritol in this article.
Erythritol for baking
Are you wondering what you can do with erythritol? Well - actually everything your sweet tooth desires. The only thing you can't do with erythritol is caramelise it, but who needs caramel when you've got chocolate brownies, vegan hazelnut muffins, a lion tart and bounty bites? Erythritol is great for baking and sweetening desserts. It's also great in fruit bread. But there's even more – you can replace sugar with erythritol to make your homemade marmalade. A dash of erythritol is also perfect in your tomato sauce or in a marinade for grilled vegetables or tofu. Erythritol dissolves in water at temperatures above 20º Celsius, meaning it is very easy to incorporate into dressings and sauces.

Hey Mona, thank you for your feedback. That you can taste the "sweetener flavor" of a sugar substitute is unfortunately normal and sometimes simply a matter of habit. Likewise, it is also something individual with each person, how strongly the sweetness is perceived. Maybe you first have to try all sugar alternatives to find your favorite. Kind regards from your KoRo team :)
