Buy now: Organic agar agar powder 500g
Gelatine is an integral part of many fruit jellies, foamy desserts or even some sauces. However, this gelling agent does not come in handy on a vegan diet! Whether you are on a plant-based diet or simply not a fan of gelatine, now we have something for you: Agar Agar Powder. What at first sounds like a baby's first words is in fact a purely vegetable gelling and binding agent and thus the optimal alternative to animal gelatine. Agar agar can be used in many ways and only needs to be used in very small quantities per dish - so if you buy our agar agar in the UK now in the practical 500 g value pack, you'll be set for a long time!
Agar agar origin: extracted from algae
But what is agar agar anyway? The product with the strange name is a carbohydrate that is extracted from the cell walls of various types of algae. The finished powder is particularly suitable for gelling hot liquids, as it has to be boiled to become gellable. Thus, it becomes liquid at temperatures of 95 °C and above and then solidifies again at about 45 °C when it cools down. Although the powder is made from algae, it is completely tasteless and therefore ideally suited for preparing your favourite fruit spreads, cake icing or other firm dishes and desserts. Especially as a vegan and vegetarian substitute for gelatine, our agar agar also makes a wonderful thickener for soups or binder for many different sauces. With our agar agar powder, you will always have the perfect consistency in the future - and on a completely plant-based basis!
One of Japans oldest kitchen supplies: agar agar
What is still something quite unusual for us in Europe has been part of every well-equipped kitchen cupboard in Japan since the 17th century. In order to use as little gelatine as possible, agar agar has long had a firm place in Asian dishes. But it is now also being used more and more frequently here in Germany. You think you've never seen agar agar powder on any ingredient list? Next time, look for the designation E406, which is also the name of the powder that belongs to the group of food additives. The agar agar powder is super practical and can be used very sparingly: To gel 200 ml of liquid, you need just ¼ teaspoon of the powder.
Fun fact: Agar agar has a completely different use - namely in microbiology. On Petri dishes, the carbohydrate of the algae also serves as a nutrient medium for cultivating bacterial strains.
Buy agar agar powder now!
No matter if you are vegan or not - with our agar agar you will succeed in all your desserts and sauces from now on. But our agar agar powder is not just completely vegetable: The powder consists of 100% pure agar agar, which is obtained completely under controlled organic conditions. Without any added colourings or preservatives, the powder goes straight into the practical value pack and makes its way into your kitchen cupboard. What are you waiting for? Buy the agar agar powder online now in the large 500 g container and be supplied for a long time!
Preparation: Heat 200 ml of water over the cooker. As soon as it boils, add about ¼ teaspoon of agar-agar and continue to simmer for about five minutes. Finally, remove from the heat and allow to cool, giving the liquid its jelly-like consistency.
